Brian Applegate, MSW, Therapist

Brian is a Montana native who made Coeur d’Alene his home in 2013. His journey into social work began in youth residential treatment and deepened during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that clarified his calling to support others through connection, resilience, and healing. What started as an unexpected shift soon became a calling. With prior interests in firefighting, EMS, and law, Brian discovered his true purpose through the relational and transformative work of social work—particularly in supporting those navigating complex life challenges.
Brian earned his Master of Social Work from Idaho State University, with a focus on clinical practice and trauma-informed care. His early experiences in residential care, coupled with impactful work on a street medicine team, shaped his passion for serving vulnerable populations, including those experiencing housing insecurity. These roles have given him a systems-level perspective on mental health and strengthened his belief in the power of compassionate, community-rooted support.
In the therapy room, Brian brings warmth, humor, and non-judgment to every interaction. Whether you’re seeking structured solutions, mindfulness-based strategies, or insight into longstanding patterns, Brian tailors his approach to fit your needs and personality. At the heart of his work is a belief that everyone deserves to live authentically - empowered by their values and supported in becoming who they’re meant to be.
Outside of work, Brian embraces the outdoors and family life. You’ll often find him hiking, paddleboarding, throwing discs on local courses, or enjoying time with his wife and children. He’s also proudly nerdy, LGBTQ+ inclusive, and always up for a good laugh or deep conversation.
